The MSCPA power production system draws on many resources to supply energy to its customers. The Agency owns an interest in the transmission line connecting the plant to Consumers Energy's transmission system, undivided ownership in a Consumers extra high voltage (EHV) transmission line, and substation facilities and transmission lines in Hillsdale, Marshall, and Coldwater. In addition, the MSCPA has the ability to dispatch more than 40 megawatts of electric power from oil- or natural gas-powered generating facilities owned by the five member communities. These generating facilities are used primarily during peak load time periods or to alleviate certain power transmission constraints.
