The City of Marshall takes pride in its appearance. In order to keep a clean aesthetic quality to our community, there are zoning and other City regulations which all citizens and business owners are expected to follow. The City employs a part-time Code Enforcement Officer to answer questions and complaints from Citizens, work with property owners to assure regulations are met, and to inspect the City to pinpoint possible violations. The Code Enforcement Officer reports directly to the Director of Community Services and to the City Manager and City Council in the form of monthly Code Enforcement Reports.

Some of the most enforced ordinances include:

Junk Vehicles

Health and Sanitation: Nuisance Ordinance

The Code Enforcement Officer’s principal duty is to work with property owners to ensure that ordinances and City regulations are understood and met. If found in violation, the homeowner may receive a visit and/or a card from the Code Enforcement Officer requesting a call or meeting time to discuss the issue. Once the problem is understood, a reasonable amount of time is given to the property owner to rectify the issue and a re-inspection from the Officer follows. The last resort, if compliance cannot be achieved, is a Civil Infraction Ticket referring the matter to a court having jurisdiction or City abatement of the nuisance at the cost of the owner.  However, it is always the City’s first desire to resolve an issue before it gets to that point.

Outdoor wood burners are classified as a Nuisance and prohibited within the City.
